Hampton – Newport News – New Kent – Williamsburg – York County – Poquoson Divorce Lawyer
The issues involved in your divorce can impact your life for years to come. Child custody and visitation agreements affect your relationship with your children and with your former spouse. Child support orders can determine your financial future and that of your children. As your attorney, I will take the time to explain your options and prepare you to make the best possible decisions throughout the divorce process. I am a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. As a Collaboratively trained attorney, I offer Collaborative Divorce as a new way for married couples to resolve disputes respectfully, without going to court. Unlike a traditional divorce, a Collaborative Divorce allows the benefit of child and financial specialists, divorce coaches and other professionals all working together on a team to help the family create a lasting, durable agreement. Issues in Family Law
In addition to divorce, I assist clients with post-divorce modifications to amend child support orders, custody orders or visitation arrangements. As circumstances change, the original agreement or order may no longer be in the best interests of your children. I can help you address any issue regarding modifications to your custody or support order.
My experience includes helping military families with divorce and family law issues unique to their situation. Many military families were married or divorced out of state and must now look to Virginia family courts for modifications or other family law services. I can help you register your foreign custody or support order to make a necessary modification. I can also help you with enforcement of your child support order or custody arrangement. Having served as special counsel to the Division of Child Support Enforcement, I have extensive experience with enforcement issues in Virginia.
Another issue confronting military and nonmilitary families is disestablishing paternity. When you are married, Virginia law presumes that you are the legal parents of any children born to the marriage. If a child is not yours, you must disestablish paternity to ensure that you are not responsible for ongoing child support.
