Hampton – New Kent – Newport News Juvenile Court Attorney
Juvenile and domestic relations district courts are different from general district courts. As a former deputy commonwealth’s attorney for the Hampton Juvenile Court, I am highly familiar with the practices and personnel involved in juvenile proceedings. I know the process and I can guide you through the system to protect your child every step of the way.
Juvenile and Circuit Court
Anyone under the age of 18 is considered a juvenile, but if someone 14 or older is accused of a felony, he or she may be certified or transferred to the Circuit Court and tried as an adult. Even if the case does end up in Circuit Court, options are still available at the sentencing phase to protect your child.
Certain crimes, including gang crimes, are treated differently by Virginia courts. An act that might be charged as assault under other circumstances may be charged as assault and battery associated with a mob. If your child is accused of a crime that could be attributed to gang activity, you need to speak to an experienced Hampton juvenile crimes attorney right away.
In addition to felonies and gang crimes, I help juveniles accused of traffic offenses, underage possession of alcohol and other, lesser offenses. Virginia has a separate statute dealing with underage DUI. People under 21 caught driving with any alcohol in their systems need legal assistance immediately.
